The Palace On Wheels, the most prestigious and luxurious train of India and probably the world, is modeled on the lines of beautiful and magnificent palaces of the erstwhile kings and Maharajas of India. Palace On Wheels luxury train takes you on a complete tour of Rajasthan in just seven days. All the 14 saloons of the train are named after the different cities of Rajasthan. The names of the saloons are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, Bundi, Kota, Jhalawar, Dungarpur, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Sirohi, Bikaner, Udaipur and Kishangarh. The traditional look of the saloons has been complemented with all contemporary amenities of daily life. Apart from the 4 cabins connected with bath and shower, you will also get a Khidmatgar (personal attendant) attached to your salon. This mind blowing journey of the desert starts every Wednesday evening at 1800 hrs from Delhi and ends on the following Wednesday early in the morning at 0730 hrs. In the olden times, the rulers of princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India used to travel by these luxurious coaches. It is interesting to note that after independence, these coaches were parked and remained in this state till 1981-82, when the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways together launched a special heritage tourist.

In every saloon, there is one saloon captain valet and one attendant to look after the personal needs of its tourists.
